Blade Runner 2049 [4K UHD + Blu-ray]
About this deal
created in a digital 4K master for its cinematic release and even, so it seems, delivered with native 4K or 3. Furthermore, what's the point of releasing a 24-bit 48kHz version for download when it's DR7 like this? While I absolutely love the Dolby Vision application and wish it was available on this disc, I'm still very pleased with the included HDR10 application on the 4K Blu-ray. Just bear in mind that the range and scale of Blade Runner 2049’s Atmos soundtrack is so epic that you need a pretty potent speaker system to do it anything like the justice it deserves. Like the original Blade Runner, its huge, expansive soundscape allows you to take in the details of this impressively realised world.
Blade Runner 2049 was one of the greatest cinema experiences of 2017; potentially even the decade, and now it's one of the best 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray releases of 2018, and easily to date. Now, looking at this film from a visual aspect here, in terms of filmmaking, I have to honestly just first geek out. Everything changes when K uncovers a mystery so deeply rooted in society that it risks the future of mankind. Don’t get me wrong, it’s FANTASTIC to see Deckard come back to life, but the third act feels a bit too long at times, with Ford taking center stage for reasons unknown. A 21-minute feature on designing the world of Blade Runner 2049 gets things off to a strong start, exploring both the film’s general style as well as the creation of specific scenes and futuristic objects via a great mix of artwork, interview clips (including some with Ridley Scott) and behind the scenes footage.in which Hampton Fancher and David Webb Peoples adapted as a screenplay for the first film, that this follows. Like in the original Blade Runner, the city scenes are dark, tending to be rainy, and plain ol' murky. This almost reminds me of Pacific Rim, as its a very well done mix, but one that is just INTENSE, acting as a sonic assault rather than a gentle mix.
lossless mix (such as the DTS-HD MA) it more mixes these sounds into the rear or front channels and feels a bit condensed in comparison. While not the brightest or best contrast given the atmospheric haze, we can already see extra detail with sharper edges of the solar panels.Gosling wears this introspective awareness in every scene as a character who is constantly evaluating his presence and his sense of place. Remember, Blade Runner 2049 off the UHD Blu-Ray that I'm showing here in the 1:1 crops is almost 50Mbps average video bitrate.
The trailers did a terrible job of selling the film, so those expecting a rip-roaring sci-fi action movie will not get that film. She lives behind a glass panel and you can hear the slight change in how her voice is picked up when we're on her side of the panel or K's.
Whether or not the film comes to a close with an open-ended finale suggesting that there could be more adventures, some things are better left alone. That led to a sequel being developed, with Denis Villeneuve in the director's chair and Ryan Gosling in the central role.K's discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. The original film touched upon these themes, but they are given more weight in 2049, which makes for a more engaging story.
