About this deal

Sex Education meets Love, Simon – with fake zombies – in this savagely funny gay YA romance about body image, self-acceptance and falling in love, all while shooting a low-budget zombie flick! It was so clever and so effective, especially knowing that it was directly from the author's own emotional experience.

Sex Education meets Love, Simon - with fake zombies - in this savagely funny gay YA romance about body image, self-acceptance and falling in love, all while shooting a low-budget zombie flick! It deals with some more serious topics like body image, homophobia, bullying but without dragging the whole mood down. A Big Gay Rom-Zom-Com with HeartJesse Spark has a broken heart and in a few short weeks he’ll require major surgery to repair it – which means he only has a month to accomplish two almost-impossible tasks. I asked myself several times how realistic it is that these young people are making this zombie film and doing it so professionally, and then I thought „Who cares, I love it and all I want is for Jesse to be happy! There is some homophobia in the story, but I thought that it was handled well, as well as some hints at internalised homophobia. The characters were great and lovely, the start of the book was very good and the writing was alright! He was lied to by nearly everyone and then treated like shit for questioning being lied to as if it was his own fault. Das ganze Buch ist in der Ich-Perspektive geschrieben und gibt einen wundervollen Einblick in das Leben des Jungen, den wir begleiten.

Fall in love before this surgery lands him with a huge scar – because how will anyone ever fancy him after that? This did fall into the same problem that I've had with other gay romance books, in that Jesse chased a guy who was so obviously unsuitable for him, while the obvious final love interest had to wait for him to notice him until a few chapters off the end. I'm currently not in the mood (or state) for to heavy and dark stuff, so I really appreciate books like this one. I particularly appreciated the focus on body insecurity and how challenging it can be when you don’t look a way that society deems as attractive. is one of my favourite authors, and I have loved all of his books, especially The Outrage and Killing Jericho.Morgan was so relatable too, once again her love for performance but also how she views herself as not enough. This is a heartfelt (pun intended), heart warming (sorry I'll stop), heart wrenching (okay I'm done for real) story of self-esteem, courage, achievement, friendship, and above all, love. The mortality issue is very well dealt with and refreshing to find in the queer YA genre - it's been overlooked and William Hussey opens the theme up well. I found the “jokes” to be forced and completely uneeded , Like the whole sex dungeon thing at the beginning ….

Er erinnert mich in seiner ganzen Art ein wenig an Stiles Stilinski aus der „Teen Wolf“ Serie und Gott, schon allein deshalb liebe ich ihn. The problem is, he has a heart condition that will put him under a knife in 2 months, so time is of the essence. I found cas + jessie’s interaction so incredibly sweet and I really did quite like Jessie’s character as a whole . If you like audiobooks, you should definitely listen to this one, because what Chris Nelson has delivered here is perfect. Even that little "mystery" was so well developed, that it made me want to pick up Hussey's mystery novels.

The man is a master of his craft and creates such beautifully written novels full of heart (excuse the pun) love and drama, making them hard to put down.
