Date with Justice: 9 (The Dales Detective Series, 9)
About this deal
Overall I think this is totally worth it, it has all the cozy vibes one could want, characters that are fun and with depth, a dog that is the most lovable thing, a slight romantic touch and a lot of mystery. It’s hard to know which crackles with energy more, the various explosions and fires or their chemistry.
An argument over an ecology report for planning permission which got out of hand, with Will known to have a hot temper.
I would liken this book and indeed the series to a boiled sweet with a soft centre but a hard shell. The dialogue is funny, notably on the subject of the fledgling romance between Delilah and Samson, where everyone has an opinion and isn’t afraid to voice it, to much squirming and embarrassment from the recipients.
Julia Chapman is the author of the Dales Detective series, which follows the adventures of Samson O'Brien and Delilah Metcalfe as they solve cases in the Yorkshire Dales. Usually I am confident about just jumping into an ongoing mystery series as authors will provide background for readers new to the series.
Chapman has created a superb cast of characters with all the domestic gossip, rivalries, fallings-out and community spirit anyone who grew up in a small town will love and recognise. There were a few minor disappointments: fiction in general seems to miss out on proofreading and the text has several typos. It tied the narrative strands from the previous books together very well, though I still don't understand exactly how international crime and money laundering work!We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Il n'y a rien que j'admire plus qu'un écrivain qui sache maintenir l'intérêt de son auditoire sans se sentir obligé de prendre en otage des éléments de l'intrigue ! Great descriptions of the landscape, characters and the shenanigans of the locals who inhabit her pages. I say latest because much reference is made to previous mayhem, which I assume was covered in earlier novels. She spent the majority of that time as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language but also dabbled in bookselling, pawnbroking, waitressing and was once ‘checkout chick of the month’ at a supermarket in South Australia. They will have to put the past behind them if there is to be any business coming their way, and now with suspicious deaths, they embark on different mysteries in every book.in fact they were all leading up to this book which makes me hope that this is not the last that we hear from the Dales detective agency. Romantic attachments that have been bubbling for a while are cemented, whilst the untrustworthy members of the town have been routed. Investigating the murder of a senior official, they are soon up against more than they bargained for!
