About this deal

Another defect is in the strap that holds the coupling folded away when you are not towing a child's bike.

I was curious as to whether the FollowMe tandem would get in the way, but it’s a doddle to hook up and is reasonably compact once you get used to the overhang at the rear. Secondly, there is a little strap and spring hook included that you may want to run through your saddle. It allows you to attach or detach your child’s bicycle in less than 30 seconds, deploying or retracting itself behind your bicycle. It is not perfect though, it has a some annoying design flaws, which could have been improved over the years, but it isn't, hance the four stars. My 6 year old isn't feeling the whole bike thing, but my 2 year old is well into it, so will be using the followme when he's a bit bigger.I don’t know yet whether this will be a problem or not, I’ll see how it is once we’ve been out a few times. As parents of two little boys, it’s not always easy to get everyone on board when planning our next bike tour. It didn't solve my problem of derailleur interference on my specific mech given the entry point of the shifter cable.

I don’t remember seeing this myself, though it is quite a big manual and I was probably more concerned with getting the FollowMe Tandem fitted at the time. Thankfully Chris was on hand to demonstrate how to hook the child’s bike to the FollowMe, which wasn’t as complicated as the instructions made out. Special adapters are available and sold separately if your bike does not feature a quick-release axle. But because it’s so stable, it’s also a great option for parents who want to tow a child the entire way.

Stow FollowMe: After use, when no child is docked, fold FollowMe in and hang it on the luggage rack or saddle using a snap hook. T loved being able to pedal – he’s used to sitting in a front or rear seat, so I was impressed to see that he was pedalling all the time. It also feels less cumbersome moving about than the Trail-Gator, as the attachment points of the two bikes are close together and there’s no bar getting in the way. Give the entire setup a test ride, preferably just by yourself for the very first time, and then invite your kid to join you and enjoy the wild ride!

Today I planned to move the fittings for it to my daughter's new bike and I cannot see how to remove the downtube clamp. They may think they are helping by applying the brakes at a junction, but not being able to pull away as you’d intended could cause problems! Having this secure connection also gives confidence to ride in less-than-ideal road conditions – mixing with school-run traffic hasn’t been an issue.Riding a tandem like this creates tons of lateral forces and moments on each component involved, and the “bulkiness” of the design allows for a very rigid connection between the two bikes. People pull up beside me in their cars and roll down their windows to tell me how great my setup is.
