About this deal

Whether it's a music creation console in a child's classroom or an ultra-expressive MIDI controller in a producer's studio, the J-Play adapts to every style. Both projects assume default MIDI channel settings for the Joué modules, so that the keyboard-like modules play the instruments while the control modules modulate the effects.

However the orientation has to be set in the editor, and then loaded into the module: the Joué isn't capable of determining that by itself. We also think this’ll be a kid-friendly instrument, finding a home in SEN teaching situations where individual students have different needs for how they play. The Joué Editor software, available with the Pro option, allows you to edit every MIDI message sent with the Play Pads. The Joué is a slim block measuring some 36cm wide and 14cm deep, and appears to be milled out of a solid block of wood, though in fact a cursory glance at the underside reveals that it's constructed from panels glued together with almost hermetic precision. Turn the keyboard panel into a mixing console or customize the guitar panel for a left-handed guitar - the possibilities are endless. Channel aftertouch is generated in isolation from each pad, so if you press multiple pads at once, the value transmitted will jump around inconsistently.

Since the projects are routing MIDI by channel, they don't attempt to make use of MPE (which is only a loss for Bitwig, since Live doesn't support MPE anyway), so if you want to adapt these projects as a starting point you'll need to turn off MPE for any modules you want to use.Download the free Play app for Mac, PC or iOS, and when you connect the board to your device, it loads up the relevant set of instruments for the pad you have fitted. I suppose another reason to wonder if it was just a firmware issue is if ‘initial note velocity’ calculations are still ok. The last tricky thing is dealing with the notes slipping in and out of colliding, but the inertia function should have that in there. Anyway yes, I would use your script if you wrote one, thanks so very much for investigating this possibility! For the guitar and drum pads, these are a selection of different styles, and for the piano and key pads, there are pianos, synths, strings and the like.

For beginners, it’s fun and rewarding to play – the developers mention teaching music to kids as one application, and that’s certainly something it’s primed for. For testing I used ROLI Equator and FXpansion Cypher2 (which are MPE-capable), both stand-alone and in Bitwig Studio, and I also fired up Cycling '74 Max to inspect MIDI controller messages more closely. You’ll need to attach the relevant pad to enable the different categories of sound and the app actually supports up to eight boards being connected, should you want to collaborate in real-time.

Play and experiment with a multitude of effects by varying the pressure of your fingers to adjust their intensity. There can be several reasons why you may experience latency when using any MIDI controller with a Bluetooth audio device. Conveniently, a set of buttons beside the Joué image allow generated control messages to be filtered by X, Y and Z dimensions individually, making it much easier to use 'MIDI learn' to bind controllers to parameters in instruments and DAWs.

It's possible to pitch bend along a string (a gesture referred to as vibrato), but the most extreme pitch bending (which is upwards only) comes from the 'bending' gesture, pushing strings upwards or downwards. The top of the device sports a metal plate with a recessed area which takes a selection of brightly-coloured flexible silicone 'modules'. Synth: A double-width module implementing an octave and a half of keyboard, with a selection of buttons in a row at the top.If the rfid tags are partially shielded and offset from the center, it’s possible to override the the “base” with an instrument pad.
