Nightwing Year One
About this deal
They only recently reprinted Nightwing: Year One in a deluxe edition, only for it to go out of print again too. On June 10, 2008, Dixon announced on his forum that he was no longer "employed by DC Comics in any capacity. We got to see several of Batman's most well-known antagonists, like Joker, Killer Croc, and Clayface.
In March, 2002, Dixon turned his attention to CrossGen's output, salthough he co-wrote with Scott Beatty the origin of Barbara Gordon's Batgirl in 2003's Batgirl: Year One. He thus seeks advice from heroes like Superman who coincidentally ends up being the one who will present the origin story of his new name. Unable to avoid fighting crime, the man Grayson begins a new odyssey donning a new uniform and a new name. While that is a fair assessment, it does not take into account the uniqueness that this story holds. And Scott McDaniel’s art… was and is, absolutely kinetic, with sequences that often felt like they would leap off the page at you.Talking to Dick like he means nothing to him, shouting at him, humiliating him, betraying him, immediately replacing him behind his back and dressing him in Dicks own clothes. Chapter three feels a little forced as it's a random Deadman guest shot that takes place when Dick takes a brief side trip to rejoin the circus and we learn that the Flying Graysons knew Boston Brand, but I'll excuse the tacked on nature as Scott McDaniel draws both an awesome Deadman and fantastic aerial scenes. The reason I got into reading comics was because I wanted to know more about what happened between Bruce and Dick. En het probleem met ALLES invullen van storylines waar eerst alleen maar naar gehint werd, is toch dat het juist iets van de magie weghaalt.
One of those reunions would be on the Nightwing title itself, and that story would be be Nightwing: Year One. CrossGen now enters the territory of martial arts comics, in particular the kind of historical kung fu slapstick popularized by Jackie Chan. I would recommend getting a physical copy if you can because it’s a great book, but it is very hard to find, but it's worth having in your graphic novel collection. Nonetheless, what Dixon does do a superlative job of is in portraying Dick Grayson as somebody who has reached a personal crossroads as far as living under the rules of his surrogate father and who possesses that natural mix of rebellion and ambition.
Although this doesn't provide a great Reboot of an origin I came away from the book still feeling like it wasn't completely destroyed like some other Reboots. A place for fans of DC's comics, graphic novels, movies, and anything else related to one of the largest comic book publishers in the world and home of the World's Greatest Superheroes! Nightwing is also a clever and careful person, but he is not afraid to get his hands dirty in an all-out brawl. His earliest comics work was writing Evangeline first for Comico Comics in 1984 (then later for First Comics, who published the on-going series), on which he worked with his then-wife, the artist Judith Hunt. It's a really sweet read, if you need cheering up and love the batfam then this is the one for you, it's definitely worth picking up.
