About this deal

It’s also a gift that the story will be shared; hopefully, it will help others avoid the mistake of trusting someone with a broken moral compass. Children’s books are the best because you don’t have to choose between words or art—you get the best of both worlds.

Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective. I’m collaborating with Elena Tommasi Ferroni, the master Italian painter who taught me painting in Rome, to create an anthology of reimagined classic fairy tales like The Princess and the Pea, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Red Riding Hood, but with diverse characters and storylines. And you can transform the pain into profit—whether it’s spiritual, emotional, financial, creative, or all of the above. Tamara Pizzoli is a lifelong learner and educator who splits her time between Italy and her native Texas. This was a WOW book for me because it shows diversity in a familiar story and it has great lessons I work very hard on in my classroom. I taught Kindergarten for almost ten years, and I realized pretty early on in my teaching career that story time, or scheduled read-alouds, were my favorite time of day. And children’s books are particularly powerful agents of change because the lessons and morals they impart reach not only the child but the adults who read to them as well.

My favorite book of all-time is Miss Nelson is Missing, and no one can retell fairytales like James Marshall. If your child doesn’t love bears but is dinosaur-obsessed, tell them the Goldilocks version with the bears first and then move on to the Mo Willems dinosaur version. Indeed, this is the vibe for the former kindergarten schoolteacher’s children’s books, The Ghanaian Goldilocks and its follow up, F is for Fufu: An Alphabet Book Based on The Ghanaian Goldilocks. There, she faced considerable adversity, but also found the courage to pursue her creativity full-time like she had always dreamed.Pizzoli is an educator too, that founded The English Schoolhouse and The English Schoolhouse Publishing in Rome, Italy! If you like this one, be sure to check out the other “Wrong Fairy Tale” books by this author and illustrator. It’s refreshing, liberating and satisfying to do whatever the hell you want and think is a good idea—that’s the beauty of entrepreneurship. Pizzoli has also completed work on Fatou and The Kora, a magical narrative spun around a little girl with one leg in the material and spiritual worlds of Africa, listening to the spirits in plants and insects and communicating with her Kora. A wise man named Don Folden once told me adversity guards the door to success, and, oh, how the last four years have proven those words to be true.

During this time, she developed a knack for spotting good stories and uncovered a gap in the world of children's literature. Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a great fairy tale to read when you’re introducing children to fairy tales. Enjoy references to the modern West African tale The Ghanaian Goldilocks while learning more about the culture, people, traditions and staples of the gorgeous country of Ghana…all while practicing your ABCs! Punched plenty with beautiful illustrations by Phil Howell (the same genius who illustrates Kanye West’s alias, the college drop out bear, and designs for hip hop artist Pharrell), the children’s book invites imagination and chuckles, all the while providing memorable moments for life lessons. It’s important for me to share just a few of the countless wise gems that the African continent holds with as many readers as possible. The Ghanaian Goldilocks” has beautiful illustrations bursting with love, energy, primary colors and places in dreams; in my mind, many of the scenes depicted could just as easily have taken place in a neighborhood in the Bronx, Chicago, Miami, Jamaica as they did in their setting in Accra, Ghana.
