About this deal

Because Eo’s dream is still alive – and after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope. Yet it’s the human moments, interludes with characters, glimpses of their hearts and souls that make Lighbringer sing. I love reading the books and began the series that way, but the audio adds an element to the characters and story that I enjoy. This book reminded me why I loved this world, these characters, and that bloodydamn Pierce Brown in the first place.

Narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds, this science fiction fantasy takes us back to the roots of the saga.Whenever I think I know where the story is headed, something changes, someone dies, and I'm left a little sad but clamoring to read more. Darrow's transgressions on his way to saving the planets and people are being aired out in Light Bringer. It is meant to be used as a reference for those who have already read the book and need the information or a refresher on the storyline. Thankfully he didn’t go through anything as awful as I was imagining from the ending of Dark Age, and that alone was a relieve and makes me look forward to the final book more.

Lysander and his former friend Ajax au Grimmus participate in an Iron Rain against Darrow's armies, but Darrow fights back with a Storm God, a previously hidden terraforming tool used as a weapon. The company’s powerful digital retail and library distribution network reaches millions of listeners around the globe—at home, in the car, and everywhere their mobile devices go. Yes, the war is waging on, there are moments of military campaigns that are well played out here that Pierce describes in breathtaking prose. Some parts felt a little long, but I feel that way often when there are multiple narrators because I am always eager to get back to the perspective of my favorite characters. When Darrow is seeking Servo for a long awaited reunion, you will be on the edge of your seat, wishing they’d move quicker. There is so much that Brown does right with this series, and so I’ll just touch on a few points of appreciation. I can’t wait to see him go head to head with Darrow (the version of Darrow at his best), because when he actually faces a Peerless Scarred all out?

Yet when a mission to rescue a friend turns out to be a trap set by an old enemy, Darrow finds himself once again fighting for his life.

The title of the second installment, Dark Age, was announced in February 2018 soon after the release of Iron Gold. Author Pierce Brown infuses this installment in the Red Rising series with elements of Greek and Roman mythology, creating a vivid world that we found both immersive and unique. As always, Pierce Brown manages to foreshadow plot twists and weave in hidden details yet still leave me in total shock with the events that occur, both that I could and could not predict!

NOOOPE I TAKE THAT BACK immediately following the first thought, because then all I could think was, ‘ shiiiiit he’s probably gonna die now. A large part of how I rate a book depends on if the author was able to get an emotional reaction out of me. Due to those factors (Along with doing a full reread of the series leading up to diving into Light Bringer) it caused me to need more time to follow along and digest what was going on in each chapter. These scenes are so relatable because it makes these giants of war and destruction feel so utterly human. It is mentioned briefly here and there both to update us on what the current situation is and to talk about the ramifications it had on the characters that were involved. And I was so happy to see that redemption – I was losing faith in him, and it absolutely broke my heart. I am heartbroken, yes, but also filled with hope that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel in Red God. And that wait can be excruciating, because Pierce Brown has decided to play within the entire solar system, and he does this well. The beauty and freedom that his words provide allow readers to examine the world in in the highest stakes of fiction without challenging the truth of our reality today.
