To get super meta, here’s a GIF of me playing with a “rubbable” GIF: The squishing is just what the GIF is of, it’s the ability to scrub through the GIFs frames that is interesting here. It had an introduction to the geographical landscape within its first few sentences and the wonders of the wild life that roam the African Savannah throughout its pages.

While these Photicular images flicker for me, they don't thrill me the same way a really good photo would, or even a solid YouTube video. Now, see dinosaurs come to life as if you were traveling on an expedition a hundred million years back in time. It was expense so he only gets to look at it when there is an adult helping but he will go to the shelf and point at it when he wants to read it! Die Idee dazu entstand durch den Einfluss von Dan Kainens Vater, der am Smithonian Instistute in Washington als Kurator für Grafiken tätig war.

The kids got this book along with Oceans and Polar for Christmas - they are all absolutely amazing, but Safari is the best.

With over two million copies in print and a robust backlist presence, the series ships over 300,000 copies a year. However, you do also get a single page introduction to how the 'photicular' images work, and a 10 page introductory story from the author about a diving trip, to set the scene. Photicular, also known as Lenticular, or Integrated Photography, was first conceived in the early 20th century, but the basic concept has been around since 1692 when a French painter created paintings that revealed one, and then the other as the observer walked by. It's a "Photicular Book"– a lenticular-based technology that transfers fluid 4-color movies onto a book page. She covers her experiences and includes a brief history of African safaris and the current state of African wildlife.

Audience: This book would have a wide appeal because even toddlers would enjoy looking at the images, but the text and information would be good for elementary students. You can control the direction of the “film” and speed by turning the page slower or faster and up and down, almost like a flip-book. You’ve probably seen something like it before… a plastic card that shows different images depending on how you are looking at it. There's an introduction story which is a personal account of a woman's safari trip to Africa with a friend.

Another, slightly more satisfying variant I tried interlaced different colour variants of the same image: Blue and red… while scrolling, it seemed gray-ish, then when ended it was arbitrarily blue or red.Now take your target images, slice them in 1-unit-wide vertical strips, and keep every fifth of these strips… then make a combined image by taking a strip of each of the five images in turn. The book uses new technology which moves the page as you open and close the book so it looks as though the pictures are moving.
